Cremosina 2023: the Nizza that brings Bersano among the Platinum winners at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards

The Nizza Docg Cremosina 2023 by Bersano earns 97 points and the Platinum medal at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards

The Nizza Docg Cremosina 2023 has won the Platinum medal at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards with 97 points, entering the select group of only four Piedmont wines awarded at the highest level and among the 29 Italian labels receiving the distinction. The result comes as Bersano unveils the new visual identity of its Icone, the project that redesigns the Maison’s most representative labels.

The award is part of a Decanter edition that saw nearly 17,000 wines blind‑tasted by 245 experts from 35 countries, including 63 Masters of Wine and 24 Master Sommeliers. Alongside the Platinum, the winery also obtained a Silver for Barolo Badarina 2022 and a Bronze for Gavi di Gavi Mirage 2025, confirming the quality of its denominations.

An award arriving at a key moment for Bersano

The recognition obtained by Cremosina 2023 carries particular significance for Bersano, as it coincides with the official presentation of the redesign of the Icone, the collection gathering the company’s most identity‑defining labels. The project brings historical elements back to the forefront—such as the Napoleon‑inspired silhouette of the bottle and details drawn from the company archives—giving a contemporary look to wines that have narrated Piedmont for over a century.

In this context, the award becomes a powerful signal. As Federico Orione, the latest generation of the family and now leading sales & marketing activities, highlights:

“Receiving a Platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards is a great satisfaction, especially because it rewards one of the wines that symbolize our identity. This recognition comes at a particularly meaningful moment for the company: we have just inaugurated a new chapter in our history through the redesign of the Icone. And it is significant that this result concerns Cremosina 2023, because it is from this estate that the historic Champagnotta Napoleonica resurfaced, inspiring the new design project.”

Cremosina 2023: a Nizza Docg cru

Produced exclusively from grapes grown at Cascina Cremosina, Nizza Docg Cremosina 2023 is born from the selection of the estate’s best parcels. The property, located in Nizza Monferrato, is recognized as one of the denomination’s top crus thanks to its calcareous, clay, and sandy soils and its south and southwest exposure, which favors optimal ripening. Since 2014, the zoning of Nizza Docg has officially confirmed the area’s vocation for Barbera.

Managing the vineyards requires careful work: slopes between 15% and 25% call for contour‑planted rows, a technique that improves water management and limits erosion. Limited winter pruning to 7–8 buds, Guyot training, shoot and cluster thinning, and constant biodiversity monitoring define a responsible, quality‑oriented approach. Harvesting is exclusively manual, ensuring selection of the best clusters and preserving their integrity.

Vinification includes skin maceration in stainless steel at controlled temperature with pump‑overs and oxygenation until complete sugar transformation. This is followed by racking, time on fine lees to encourage malolactic fermentation, and ageing for at least 12 months in oak barrels and 6 months in bottle.

Bersano’s medals

In addition to Cremosina’s Platinum, Bersano brings home a Silver for Barolo Badarina 2022 (90 points) and a Bronze for Gavi di Gavi Mirage 2025 (89 points). These results demonstrate the transversal quality of the denominations overseen by the winery, now in its fifth generation and a benchmark for Piedmont.

Founded in 1907, Bersano controls the entire production chain through ten estates across Langhe and Monferrato. Alongside major native varieties—Barbera, Nebbiolo, Ruché, Brachetto, and Moscato—the winery pursues a dynamic approach open to experimentation and dialogue with contemporary languages. A cultural heritage preserved in company museums and archives completes the identity of a Maison that does not merely manage its history, but continues to invest in it.
