100% of Col Solare, winery in Washington State, goes to Marchesi Antinori

Approximately 11 hectares of vineyards cultivated mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon to give labels capable of showing the identity of the Red Mountain AVA in Washington State. Col Solare is a well-known US wine reality born almost 30 years ago from the collaboration between two influential producers: Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle. As of the end of June, the Group led by the historic Tuscan family announces in an official note the acquisition by the Italian partner of full ownership of the American wine company.

The collaboration with Ste. Michelle Wine Estates in Washington State ends: 100% of Col Solare passes to Marchesi Antinori

“Marchesi Antinori will complete the acquisition of the winery in the region called Red Mountain in Washington State of which it already owned 50% together with Ste. Michelle Wine Estates”: thus announces, in a joint official note, one of the oldest companies family-owned Italian wineries and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, a leading winery in the Pacific Northwest.

Marchesi Antinori will assume full ownership of Col Solare, a winery founded in tandem almost 30 years ago. A reality created to unite two viticultural and oenological cultures and produce great Cabernet Sauvignon from the region called Red Mountain in Washington State.

Ste. Michelle was the first Washington winery to attract international winemakers to this state by collaborating with Piero Antinori for Col Solare in 1995.

In 2007 Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Marchesi Antinori inaugurated a new winery and planted new vineyards with the vision of enhancing the Cabernet coming from this unique terroir.

The transaction which will lead to the control of 100% of Col Solare by the Italian company should be concluded by the end of June and adds a new piece to the mosaic of estates of the historic Tuscan wine family.

“Our family has been fascinated by the Red Mountain terroir since the early 1990s,” comments Piero Antinori. “It is an ongoing and exciting challenge for us to make Washington State red wines distinctive and renowned for their great quality. Full ownership of Col Solare, combined with the acquisition of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 2023, in Napa Valley, California, is proof of how much we believe in these exceptional wine territories. I have to thank Ste. Michelle Wine Estates for our long partnership.”
