It’s harvest time also in Oltrepò Pavese. The harvest 2024 has officially started, confirming the initial forecasts in terms of both quality and quantity. Despite a decrease in yields of around 30%, caused by particularly rainy weather during spring and early summer, the quality of the grapes is announced as exceptional by the surveys of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese, promising wines of the highest level. In particular, the sparkling wine bases, with Pinot Noir at the forefront, are already showing extraordinary characteristics, outlining a memorable year on the horizon for the Metodo Classico Docg Oltrepò Pavese. This corner of Lombardy, first in Italy and among the main in the world in the production of Pinot Noir, thus aims to reaffirm its historic vocation for bubbles, which aim to be the real driving force of the 2024 harvest.
The Metodo Classico Docg bubbles from Pinot Noir are the driving force of the 2024 harvest in Oltrepò Pavese
“The harvest that has just begun represents a challenge,” says the president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese, Francesca Seralvo, drawing an initial assessment at the start of the grape harvest, “but the climatic complexities are repaid by prospects of excellence, which once again highlight the quality and potential of the entire Oltrepò Pavese wine supply chain.”

In a complex year, the note from the consortium explains, it is essential not only to focus on product quality, but also to strengthen the supply chain as a whole, consolidating it with a more industrial and managerial approach, oriented towards markets and efficient cost management.
The focus, the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese continues, must be on the competitiveness and economic sustainability of producers, especially in a context marked by climatic and phytosanitary difficulties. “With this in mind,” it is specified, “the Consortium has already started a dialogue with the Lombardy Region to identify support and compensation tools, aimed at protecting the most affected areas.”
