50 Years of Tignanello: A Dream Vertical at Auction at Christie’s

A dream vertical, an unprecedented selection, from 1971, the first vintage of Tignanello produced, to 2024. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the iconic Tuscan label, a historic auction has be held at Christie’s, which has seen very rare vintages sold, supplied directly by Marchesi Antinori. The bottles, which have been stored all these years in the Tenuta Tignanello cellar, were available for purchase, together with an unreleased barrique from the 2024 vintage, the first time ever from an Italian producer, at the Finest and Rarest Wines Featuring Tignanello’s 50th Anniversary Collection Direct from The Estate event, held on November 26 and 27 at Christie’s King Street. A selection of large formats will also be auctioned, from Magnums to 12-liter Balthazars.

“2024 has been a truly important year for me and my family, as it has given us the opportunity to pay homage to a wine that has given us so much over the past 50 years,” said Piero Antinori. “To close out this special year in the best possible way, we are delighted to offer our enthusiasts a unique selection of our Tignanello, made available directly from the winery, including the very rare first vintage of 1971 and a preview of the latest vintage, 2024. It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Christie’s on this auction.”

Tim Triptree MW, International Director of Wine at Christie’s, echoed these words, commenting:

“We are truly excited to present a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase extremely rare bottles and unique formats of Tignanello, made available directly from the historic Tuscan estate. In addition, the most historic Tignanello vintages, from 1971 to 1989, have recently been checked, reconditioned and re-corked, and are therefore guaranteed and in perfect condition for the lucky buyers. It has been a pleasure to work with Marchesi Antinori, in order to bring this extraordinary collection to auction on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Tignanello”.
