Alto Adige: all the wines judged with top marks in the International Guides

The wines of Alto Adige have been awarded by the most prestigious wine guides in the world for their excellent quality. 68 wines from 29 producers have obtained top marks in various guides, including Decanter, The Wine Advocate, Vinum, Falstaff, James Suckling and Gault&Millau. Overall, Alto Adige wines have received 99 top-scoring awards in the last year, confirming their role as representatives of Italian wine excellence in the world.

“The success of Alto Adige wines is the result of a collective effort in search of quality,” says Andreas Kofler, president of the Alto Adige Wine Consortium. “These awards celebrate each producer who interprets our terroir in a unique and recognizable way. The record of high scores reflects the high level of quality throughout the supply chain.”

Alto Adige: the ranking of South Tyrolean producers

Ratings are based on individual guides’ maximum scores and special prizes awarded. Among the producers, Cantina Terlano stands out with 21 maximum ratings. Followed by the Cantina Produci San Michele Appiano with 10, Nals Margreid with 8, Cantina Tramin with 7, and Cantina Girlan and Manincor with 6 each. The Kurtatsch Winery achieved 5 maximum scores, while the Andriano Winery, the Gump Hof – Markus Prackwieser, the Kornell and Pfitscher estates received 3 each.

Successes for white, red and sweet wines

White wines lead with 60 maximum scores spread across 39 different labels. This is followed by red wines with 30 and sweet wines with 9 ratings at the highest level.

The special prizes

There are also numerous special prizes awarded by the guides for excellence in specific categories. Vinum nominated Manincor as estate of the year, Pfitscher as emerging reality and Untermoserhof as discovery of the year. Gault&Millau recognized Florian Brigl of the Kornell estate as character of the year, Gump Hof – Markus Prackwieser as collection of the year, and the Merlot-Cabernet Riserva Tres 2015 of the Kurtatsch winery as the new wine of the year 2024.
