Etna is the latest adventure, in chronological terms, of the Tommasi family. A new challenge that is taking shape today, but was born more than 20 years ago. At the time, the first approach to Sicilian wine, with a project that however did not fully convince and was abandoned. The times were not ripe, unlike 2022, when a plot on the slopes of Etna, with vineyards at altitude like the other realities of the Group, won over the members of the historic Valpolicella family. An area today increasingly on the lips and in the glass of many, at every latitude and longitude. Etna in the bottle is popular, and the Tommasi family has thus chosen that it was worth taking up the challenge. We tell you all the charm of a glass of Ammura.
Tommasi Family Estates’ New Adventure on Etna
The new estate in the Alboretto – Chiuse del Signore district in the municipality of Linguaglossa is named Ammura, which extends for 15 hectares, part of which is owned and part rented from the Tenuta Chiuse del Signore dei Bambara – De Luca, heirs of the historic Castrogiovanni family.
Located at 570 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Etna Natural Park, it stands in a suggestive territory, where the breath of the mountain merges with the breath of the sea and in summer there can also be a temperature difference between night and day of 15 ° C: perfect elements for giving life to great wines.
Labels that then carry a name of Arabic origin that means “beautiful, beloved, fascinating”. With the Arab culture that, on this occasion, becomes a symbolic bridge between Sicily and Veneto, regions united by a history of contaminations and influences.

The Ammura project was born from a profound vision, rooted in the ancestral bond between Etna and Sicilian culture. For Sicilians, the volcano is not just a natural presence, but a powerful female figure: a generous and unpredictable mother, a living entity that marks the rhythm of the earth and life. Called “A’ Muntagna”, Etna is the incarnation of respect, devotion and belonging. It is precisely from this strong identity that the Tommasi family’s project takes shape, expressing the volcano’s feminine soul through a brand inspired by the archetype of the Enchantress: a magnetic figure, capable of guarding age-old secrets and revealing them through the voice of wine. It would be better to decline the word in the plural, because there are two labels with which Ammura makes its debut.
A white from Carricante and a red from Nerello Mascalese: the charm in the glass of Ammura
“A few bottles, over 10 thousand of Etna Bianco Doc and 12 thousand and 500 of Etna Rosso Doc, half of which will be destined abroad and the other 50% for the Horeca Italia market”, explains Piergiorgio Tommasi, sales director for Italy of Tommasi Family Estates.

100% Carricante, the first, and 100% Nerello Mascalese, the second, are characterized by an evocative visual identity, which recalls the mystery and power of volcanic nature. Elements such as prickly pear and dandelion, printed on the labels, material textures, essential silhouettes and deep colors recall lava, dark earth and the chromatic contrasts of a landscape sculpted by fire and wind.
“Etna is a land of absolute charm, a place where nature and time intertwine in a powerful and unrepeatable balance”, underlines Giancarlo Tommasi, technical director of Tommasi Family Estates. “With Ammura, we have chosen to embrace this vital energy, respecting its identity and transforming it into a new chapter in our history. This acquisition is a tribute to the beauty and complexity of one of the most fascinating territories in Italy, which allows us to tell another nuance of Italian winemaking excellence with the dedication and respect that distinguish us.”

The estate’s vineyards extend across a plateau in a spectacular landscape, between the boundless view of the sea and the majesty of Etna, which dominates the panorama with its profile sculpted by time. A volcanic soil, therefore alive and always evolving, that of Etna, a unique microclimate: these are the decisive elements in shaping an Etna Rosso Doc and an Etna Bianco Doc of extreme finesse and pleasantness.
Nerello Mascalese, with its elegance, stands out for its silky tannins, vibrant minerality and a complex aromatic profile, with notes of red fruits, spices and ethereal nuances. Carricante, an iconic white of Etna viticulture, offers distinctive freshness, lively acidity, extraordinary longevity and an olfactory profile that recalls citrus fruits, Mediterranean herbs and volcanic salinity.
Each bottle of Ammura captures the identity of this land, enhancing its indomitable character and its extraordinary intensity. For an exclusive production in which the ancestral power of the volcano merges with the artisanal sensitivity of the Tommasi family, giving life to a new interpretation of the territory, authentic and without compromise.
