Deutz Writes a New Chapter in Its History: Amour de Deutz 2015 Makes Its Debut

For the first time in its history, Amour de Deutz is born from the meeting of seven Grand and Premier Cru villages of Champagne. A debut that marks a turning point for the prestigious Blanc de Blancs cuvée de prestige of the Maison based in Aÿ and that finds its expression in Amour de Deutz 2015. More than simply a vintage Champagne, it is the synthesis of a vision built around Chardonnay, the precision of blending and the value of time, with almost 10 years of ageing in the Maison’s historic underground cellars.

A Cuvée That Expresses Deutz’s Interpretation of Chardonnay

Amour de Deutz occupies a special place in the history of the Maison, founded in 1838 in Aÿ, one of Champagne’s most prestigious Grand Cru villages.

Created more than 25 years ago as a complement to the historic William Deutz, this cuvée was conceived to express another dimension of the company’s identity: that of Chardonnay, light, minerality and the ability to translate into wine the most authentic expression of Champagne’s great terroirs.

With the 2015 edition, the Maison opens a new chapter in its stylistic research.

The very name, “Amour”, becomes a declaration of intent and tells the story of a profound connection with Champagne, its villages and its unique ability to transform time into sensory memory.

Amour de Deutz 2015: A Vintage That Required Patience and Precision

The 2015 growing season was not an easy one.

After an exceptionally rainy winter, spring was characterised by unusually high temperatures, followed by a hot and dry summer that put the vineyards’ balance under severe pressure.

Only the rainfall at the end of August allowed the grapes to regain harmony and complete the ripening process correctly.

For the Deutz winemaking team, the challenge was not to seek power or concentration, but rather to transform the energy of the vintage into elegance and finesse.

For this reason, the Chardonnay harvest was deliberately delayed, allowing the grapes to reach ideal maturity while preserving tension and precision of expression.

For the first time in its history, Amour de Deutz 2015 is born from the meeting of seven Grand and Premier Cru villages of Champagne.

Seven Villages for an Unprecedented Blend

For the first time, Amour de Deutz 2015 is born from the combination of seven Grand and Premier Cru villages of Champagne.

Avize forms the backbone of the blend with 46%, providing verticality and tension. Oger contributes 15%, bringing greater volume and aromatic breadth. Villeneuve-Renneville at 13% and Vertus at 7% add freshness and precision, while Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, accounting for 8%, imparts its characteristic mineral signature.

The composition is completed by Chouilly, with 6%, and Villers-Marmery, with 5%, enriching the wine’s profile with elegance and aromatic depth.

Each cru is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, and only after months of tastings and more than twenty blending trials does the final cuvée take shape.

The wine is then entrusted to time, resting for almost 10 years in the Maison’s historic galleries, located 30 metres below ground level.

A Blanc de Blancs Built to Defy Time

In the glass, Amour de Deutz 2015 expresses a luminous and complex personality.

The aromatic profile opens with notes of hawthorn, acacia and orange blossom, gradually evolving towards hints of yellow peach, candied citrus peel, honey and delicate brioche nuances.

On the palate, it reveals a precise and profound structure supported by pronounced mineral tension and refined salinity that carries the wine through to a remarkably persistent finish.

This stylistic construction reflects the Maison’s determination to favour balance and authenticity over immediate impact.

Amour de Deutz 2015 and the Vision of Caroline Latrive

Behind Amour de Deutz 2015 lies the work of Caroline Latrive, who has been leading the Maison’s winemaking direction since 2022.

Born in Reims and raised in a family connected to the world of oenology, Latrive developed a high-level professional career at Bollinger and later at Maison Ayala, where she served as Chef de Cave for ten years.

For the first time in its history, Amour de Deutz 2015 is born from the meeting of seven Grand and Premier Cru villages of Champagne.

Her appointment represented a choice of continuity, strongly supported by Michel Davesne, the historic interpreter of the Deutz style, who designated her as his successor.

Her philosophy is based on the belief that the role of the Chef de Cave is not to leave a personal imprint on the wine, but rather to allow terroir and vintage to express themselves as authentically as possible.

A rigorous, analytical and respectful approach to raw materials that translates into Champagnes characterised by precision, intensity and restraint.

Today, under the leadership of Marc Hoellinger and with Caroline Latrive overseeing winemaking, Deutz is experiencing a new phase of its evolution, remaining faithful to its identity while becoming increasingly oriented towards international dialogue.

With Amour de Deutz 2015, this philosophy finds one of its most complete expressions: a Champagne that does not seek effect, but depth; not power, but precision.

A Blanc de Blancs destined to reveal itself slowly over time, just like the great stories of Champagne.
