Bertani: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2015 awarded with 100 points by James Suckling

A 100 points Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. This is the judgment that consecrates the symbolic creation of Bertani, the historic face of Veronese wine. Not a first for the winery part of Angelini Wines & Estates. But a great satisfaction, the recognition given to the 2015 vintage by one of the most internationally known critics, James Suckling. A medal, the highest score attributable to a label, which follows the success of the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Bertani 2013, which last year was the most awarded wine in Italy.

James Suckling awards 100 points to the Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2015

A winery like Bertani should be used to similar recognitions instead, every time, it’s like the first. Especially when the milestone of excellence is marked by a wine like the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico which, in the 2015 vintage, expresses all its identity as a great red, the flagship of Made in Italy.

The result of over 3 thousand days of waiting and work, “the 2015 vintage is the harvest that made us perceive for the first time the effect of climate change and how much this today influences the nature and composition of the grapes and, therefore, the duration of the set-aside”, reports the Bertani technical team.

An exuberant Classic Amarone della Valpolicella. “The nose is very expressive and complex, with clear floral notes (violet/crocus) and cedar that mix with darker and earthy tones”, explains Nick Jackson Master of Wine, who edited the volume The Library for Bertani which contains the cataloging of 45 vintages for 66 years of history. “On the palate there is an important but not heavy structure, thanks to its lively acidity. The generous fruit makes the tannins enveloping and flowing, creating a perfect consistency. The notes of red fruit of notable purity are followed by a sip rich in liquorice and a meaty and tasty finish. This is a meditation wine, rich in depth and pleasant savory, smoky notes, accessible now thanks to soft tannins and sensual expressiveness, but with decades of glorious evolution ahead.”

Bertani: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2015 awarded with 100 points by James Suckling one of the most internationally known critics.

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Bertani is a true classic of the denomination, a red that summarizes tradition, territory and peasant wisdom.

80% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella, are left to rest in a traditional fruit cellar without any forcing in terms of temperature and humidity control. Set aside on the areles lasts 78 days.

The wine then matures in 50 – 100 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for seven years. Bottle refinement lasts about a year. The result is an Amarone della Valpolicella Classico of great thickness and depth, both in aromas and on the palate, where the alcohol finds the right traveling companions in the acidity and refined tannins.

A wine which, in these days, enters the market and which traces its entry in the name of excellence.

“This result is a source of pride for the entire work team who have always safeguarded the values and style of a great brand. This is a timeless wine, the son of a unique place, of respect for tradition and the art of waiting”, highlights Pietro Riccobono, Chief Wine Maker of the Angelini Wines & Estates Group.

This is echoed by the words of the new CEO of Angelini Wines & Estates, Alberto Lusini, who comments on the evaluation received from James Suckling as follows:

“The whole Bertani team rejoiced at this perfect score, 100 points which seal a long work that starts from respect for the territory and the unmistakable style of the house, year after year”
