In the heart of Chianti Classico, between Panzano and Montefioralle, a historic vineyard finds a new voice. Biancone Toscana Chardonnay 2024 is the latest expression from Vecchie Terre di Montefili, a wine born from a parcel planted at 500 metres above sea level and conceived as a coherent extension of the estate’s philosophy rather than a stylistic departure. Produced in just 1,330 bottles, Biancone represents a natural step in a path built on precision, restraint and deep respect for the territory, confirming Montefili’s ability to translate its vision beyond Sangiovese while remaining fully anchored to place.
The Voice of a Historic Vineyard
Biancone comes from a Chardonnay parcel planted in 1982, located in Vigna Anfiteatro, on soils of alberese limestone and schistous clay. A small plot—just 0.4 hectares—that over time has shown such expressive clarity as to merit separate vinification.
Giving voice to this vineyard follows the same principle that guides Montefili’s entire production: to produce only what the land naturally offers, and only when a parcel expresses a clear and distinctive identity.
In the vineyard, the approach is low‑intervention, with targeted use of organic and natural fertilisers, no insecticides, low yields and constant attention at every stage of the growing cycle, from pruning to harvest. A method designed to enhance the parcel’s identity while respecting both the environment and vineyard health.
The 2024 harvest, carried out in the first half of September, delivered ideal conditions of balance and ripeness. Vinification involves spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 12 months of ageing, equally divided between stainless steel and wood—350‑litre tonneaux and 225‑litre barriques with bâtonnage—preserving aromatic clarity while adding depth and structure.
Biancone Chardonnay 2024: Brightness, Freshness and Precision
Biancone 2024 presents a refined yet accessible profile, expressing the character of a high‑altitude white that favours elegance and detail. On the nose, elderflower and acacia notes emerge, followed by fruit aromas of green apple, Conference pear and lime zest.
On the palate, the wine is vibrant and well balanced, with lively, refreshing acidity and a subtle saline note that clearly reflects altitude and freshness. A bright, fragrant expression supported by pleasant fruit richness and a lean, linear structure.
As winemaker and agronomist Serena Gusmeri notes:
“The 2024 vintage offered ideal balance and ripeness: the Chardonnay stands out for its aromatic intensity and brilliance. A floral bouquet of elderflower and acacia is followed by fruit notes of green apple, Conference pear and lime zest.”

A White Wine That Reflects Vecchie Terre di Montefili’s Philosophy
In many respects, Biancone reflects the same vision that defines Montefili’s Sangiovese wines: elegance over power, detail over volume, and unwavering fidelity to the territory. It is not conceived as an isolated gesture, but as part of a broader identity shaped by historic vineyards and attentive farming.
The presence of Chardonnay in the portfolio does not simply broaden the range—it reinforces the narrative of a place capable of expressing finesse and authenticity even beyond the traditional boundaries of red wine.
Thanks to its fresh, saline and luminous profile, Biancone 2024 pairs naturally with fish, shellfish and vegetarian dishes, proving equally suited as an aperitif or alongside light summer first courses. Its accessibility makes it an immediate yet far from trivial white, designed to be enjoyed in its youth while fully expressing its sense of place.
