In the hills of Langa, in March 2024, a new winemaking project was born: Cascina Penna-Currado. This project represents a return to the origins for Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti, supported by their children Giulia and Michele. The headquarters, located in an ancient sixteenth-century structure, extends over an area of 2400 square meters in the heart of the Langa del Barolo and is equipped with an energy and ecologically efficient production system. Strengthened by their long experience in the sector, Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti have chosen to blend tradition and innovation, respecting the roots of the Langa and paying attention to climate change. This new family story, founded on values of authenticity and craftsmanship, aims to create “Langa-driven” wines, capable of reflecting the history and energy of the territory, maintaining a distinctive identity that is deeply linked to the place.
From Monforte d’Alba to the Tortonesi Hills: the new winemaking project of Cascina Penna-Currado
The Cascina Penna-Currado vineyards are located in San Sebastiano, in Monforte d’Alba, an area renowned for the production of high-quality red wines. Here, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba and Barbera d’Alba are grown, respecting and enhancing the varietal characteristics of these grapes.
On the Tortonesi Hills, the estate grows Timorasso, a white wine with great structure vinified with a particular process, similar to that of a red, thanks to a delicate infusion with a submerged cap. This innovative approach reflects the desire to explore the potential of the grape variety and to obtain white wines of considerable depth. The red wines, on the other hand, are aged in steel and then in large Slavonian oak barrels, respecting the purity of the fruit and enhancing its aromatic complexity.
For Barolo, it will be necessary to wait another two years, since its plots are located on some of the most prestigious Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) in the area, among the best in the area.
