A tribute to the past and a promise for the future: the Sicilian red wine created by Giacomo Tachis based on Nero d’Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is back to life. The Tonnino winery is relaunching the idea from the Piedmontese winemaker, among the labels that symbolize the island’s wine renaissance. Ceuso 2020 is presented in a reworked and perfected recipe, thanks to a new vintage born from rediscovered notes and the wisdom of Giacomo Tachis’ cellarman at the time, Gino Amato.
“We are truly honored to be able to tell a new page of Ceuso within a symbolic place of Sicilian viticulture”, says Antonio Tonnino who leads the winery together with his sister Francesca and father Benedetto. “It is a wine that we have remembered in the family since we were kids, a beacon in the island’s winemaking that we are having the pleasure of appreciating even with the old vintages that are still very good”.

The new life of Ceuso 2020 and Giacomo Tachis’ recipe perfected by Gino Amato
Ceuso, the Sicilian red wine born from the idea of the oenologist Giacomo Tachis based on Nero d’Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, comes back to life.
Conceived by the famous Piedmontese oenologist, who during his career has signed some of the most legendary Italian wines, it has been reworked and perfected in the new vintage thanks to the rediscovered notes and the wisdom of the one who was Giacomo Tachis’ cellarman at the time, Gino Amato.
A journey of study, care and passion of the winery in the province of Trapani which in recent months has acquired the oldest of the nineteenth-century bagli in the Vivignato district, near Calatafimi – Segesta. Here the Tonnino family intends to celebrate a milestone that wants to be a new beginning and that sees in Baglio Ceuso a comfortable and cozy home in a historic area for Sicilian viticulture, where the company began to take its first steps in 2004 and with the first harvest in 2006.
An important milestone, celebrated with the 2020 vintage – the first – of Ceuso: only 3,300 bottles for the historic wine created by the famous winemaker in 1995 and brought back to life after almost a decade from the last vintage produced.

The label had an international diffusion at the time, and with it the name of the glorious baglio at the foot of the city of Alcamo built in 1860. Today, after a few years of closure, the building has been restored with the utmost respect for the original spirit of the architecture and the principles of sustainability of Tonnino.
Half Nero d’Avola and then Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a wine to drink now or, without haste, in a few years, Ceuso has always been able to embody the soul of Sicily and has remained a great red for aging, the result of a very rigorous selection of grapes in the vineyard and which continues its refinement in the precious Seguin Moreau barriques.
A Sicilian red for special occasions, characterized by exceptional aromatic breadth and length, noble and velvety tannins.
The modern history of the Tonnino winery
The Tonnino winery is located in the countryside of Alcamo and here since the 1950s, the Tonnino family has been dedicated to sustainable viticulture on the hills of Alcamo and in the Belice valley between Poggioreale and Contessa Entellina, two areas known for millennia for the generosity of the land and the vocation for vines.
The winery, which in addition to Ceuso, on the 120 hectares managed organically, produces another 10 labels for a total of 150 thousand bottles, as we know it today was born in 2004. Its subsequent history was marked in 2006 by the first label and, finally, in 2020 by the purchase and renovation of Baglio Ceuso.
