Cuvage, the renowned sparkling wine maison based in Acqui Terme, is delighted to announce the release of the latest vintage of its Alta Langa DOCG. This sparkling wine represents the pinnacle of a winemaking tradition that dates back to the 19th century, celebrating the rich heritage of Piedmontese viticulture. Alta Langa DOCG 2020 is a refined blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, grape varieties that bring both elegance and depth to the wine. The grapes are sourced from 6 hectares of carefully selected vineyards located between Strevi and Castino, at an altitude of 450 meters, on soils rich in grayish-white marls with a high limestone content. These characteristics contribute to the wine’s structure and vibrant minerality, key elements in showcasing Cuvage’s contemporary vision.
The 2020 Vintage in Alta Langa
The vintage began with a mild winter, followed by a sunny early spring with limited rainfall. Substantial rains in May and June slowed vegetative growth, fostering a balanced progression of the vine’s growth cycle throughout the rest of the season. Harvest started on August 21, yielding perfectly healthy grapes with an ideal balance of ripeness and acidity. This resulted in a vintage marked by pronounced aromas and exceptional elegance.
Vinification: a Fresh Take on Piedmont’s Metodo Classico
The hand-harvested grapes, placed in small crates, underwent gentle pressing with careful separation of the must fractions. After cold static settling and light fining, the must fermented with selected yeasts. The cuvées were aged on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks for seven months. In April, tirage was conducted, initiating secondary fermentation in bottle, where the wine matured on the lees for over 30 months. Disgorgement was performed à la glace, followed by at least three months of additional bottle aging prior to release.
