Euda Borgo Conventi: a new vision of Pinot Noir from the heart of Collio

A new vision of Pinot Noir, an original variation that takes shape in a great land of white wines. For a double signature of the author: the one that sees the internationally renowned winemaker Riccardo Cotarella together with a symbol of the Collio, the Borgo Conventi estate in Farra d’Isonzo (Gorizia), now owned by the Moretti Polegato family. The official presentation of Euda, an elegant label of Pinot Noir Collio Doc 2021 that arrives to enrich the Crù line, took place last Wednesday 6 November, at Andrea Aprea’s two-Michelin-star restaurant in Milan. After the special preview at the last Vinitaly, the new entry in red in the excellent proposal of Borgo Conventi, has chosen to peep out in the shadow of the Madonnina, revealing itself in all its refined delicacy and showing a face to most unknown of one of the most suitable corners for viticulture not only of Friuli-Venezia Giulia but of Italy.

“We are proud to present the new Euda Borgo Conventi label, a fine wine with a strong personality that continues the winery’s tradition of excellence,” underlines Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, owner of the Estate. “Borgo Conventi is a historic company, one of the most cutting-edge in the region. Our goal is to continue producing exceptional wines, with respect and loving care for every detail, transferring the extraordinary flavors, colors and aromas of this land into every bottle.”

Euda is the perfect expression of the Collio area: a red with the makings of Friuli, rich in harmonious contrasts. This new reference expands the estate’s selection of wines, which includes Collio Doc whites with Sauvignon, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Pinot Grigio, Isonzo Doc whites, Refosco and Schioppettino reds up to the precious Braida Nuova crus and Luna di Ponca Collio white Doc.

A further step forward on the path of excellence is the one taken by Borgo Conventi, a historic estate in Farra d’Isonzo (Gorizia), a dream immersed in the vocated hills of Collio of the Moretti Polegato family.

And it is precisely one of those wines that mark an era that was presented in Milan. After the preview in Verona a few months ago, in fact, Euda, Pinot Noir Collio Doc 2021 that enriches the Crù line, a range that includes wines produced in limited quantities only with selected grapes in the best years, made its official debut in front of an audience of restaurant operators.

This special red born in the land of whites, which bears the signature of the internationally renowned winemaker Riccardo Cotarella, represents a rare expression of a fine grape variety and stands out for its extraordinary finesse. Produced in limited quantities, Euda is obtained from selected grapes in the Dolegna vineyard, located in the northernmost area of Collio. There, the vines sink their roots into an ancient and complex soil, composed of marl and sandstone, which gives the wine a distinctive minerality and an unrepeatable identity.

In the glass, the new entry from Borgo Conventi is ruby red with violet reflections and seduces with a refined bouquet: notes of violets, ripe berries, cassis and currants intertwine with more subtle hints of vanilla, white pepper and coffee.

On the palate, freshness is accompanied by velvety tannins, giving a harmonious and persistent taste that makes it a wine with timeless elegance.

A great red, magnificent to savor today, but with a few more months in the bottle behind it, it will be able to give an even more marked balance and elegance.

Euda and the homage to Modigliani

The name Euda is the diminutive of Eudaimonia, happiness understood in a philosophical sense as the ultimate goal of existence. A Greek word composed of eu, meaning “good,” and daimon, “demon,” literally “being in the company of a good demon.”

A condition of the soul attributed to Amedeo Modigliani, who inspired the label of the new Pinot Nero Collio Doc 2021 by Borgo Conventi, a small work of art with a strong symbolic meaning.

The tapered profile evokes the grace and refinement of Pinot Noir, a prized grape variety present in the Collio in very few and particular expressions. An ageless face, created with a magnificent micro-engraving on gunmetal gray foil, reminiscent of a chisel on stone, which can tell the story of an equally timeless wine, to be tasted immediately or left to rest while waiting for its evolution.

The contrast between the almost velvety effect of the paper and the roughness of the engraving tells the story of the terroir of origin, the Collio, a border region where different cultures, traditions, languages and landscapes blend together, and where man has learned to live with nature in perfect harmony.

The label of Euda Borgo Conventi, designed by Massimiliano Gosparini for Tonutti Tecniche Grafiche, is a work that further enriches the wine experience. Winner of the “Best Excellence in Embellishment” award at the Vinitaly Design Award 2024, it contains symbols of grace and refinement, while reflecting the complexity of the Friulian terroir. The micro-engraving in gunmetal gray foil gives the label a sculptural and tactile effect, evocative of the jagged rocks of the Collio.

As for distribution channels, the new product from Borgo Conventi is available in selected restaurants and wine shops, as well as at the Bottega del Vino di Borgo Conventi in Farra d’Isonzo.
