Introducing Moxxé del Re: Masi’s Metodo Classico sparkling wine from Pinot Nero grapes of Oltrepò Pavese

On the occasion of Vinitaly 2024, Masi (Pavillon 7 Stand C3) presents Moxxé del Re Brut 2020, a Metodo Classico sparkling wine from Pinot Nero Oltrepò Pavese DOCG grapes, born following the acquisition of the “Casa Re” estate in Montecalvo Versiggia (PV), in the heart of a territory historically renowned for the production of Pinot Nero grapes for sparkling wine base.

“Masi’s natural habitat remains the Veneto region, but Oltrepò Pavese, the birthplace of Pinot Nero and emblem of Italian Metodo Classico, represents a coherent expansion: with Moxxé del Re, on one hand, we leverage the expertise gained in other sparkling wine expressions of the Group, on the other hand, we introduce into our portfolio a highly complementary product, in a category for which we envision a very interesting distributional future,” explains Federico Girotto, CEO of Masi.

Introducing Moxxé del Re: Masi 's Metodo Classico sparkling wine from Pinot Nero grapes of Oltrepò Pavese DOCG.

With over 250 vintages in Valpolicella Classica, Masi boasts recognized expertise in the Appassimento technique for the production of great red wines, primarily the famous Amarone. Over the years, with its Technical Group, it has also developed solid know-how in the production of premium sparkling wines: from the Conte Federico Trento DOC Riserva, made under the Bossi Fedrigotti brand in Trentino, to the sparkling wines of Canevel in Valdobbiadene, to the Moxxé range by Masi, composed of two refined references with slightly withered Pinot Grigio grapes sparkling with the Charmat method. Now, Moxxé del Re is added: characterized by a persistent and fine perlage, it stands out for its aromatic complexity, ranging from citrus notes to bread crust, hints of straw, hay, and alfalfa, typical of pure Pinot Nero. Its unmistakable bouquet and pleasant sapidity tell the story of the special extraction of the limestone soils of origin. The name reflects its belonging to the Moxxé line by Masi, while also emphasizing its origin from the Casa Re estate. The label is inspired by the black labels of Masi’s super-premium products.

About Masi Agricola

Masi is a leading producer of Amarone and has always passionately embraced the values of the Veneto region. In 2022, it celebrated the 250th harvest of the Boscaini family in the prestigious vineyards of “Vaio dei Masi,” a valley in the heart of Valpolicella Classica (1772-2022).

Masi has recognized expertise in the Appassimento technique, practiced since ancient Roman times, to concentrate color, sugars, aromas, and tannins in wine, and is one of the historical interpreters of Amarone: its president, Sandro Boscaini, represents the sixth generation of the family that helped create this Italian excellence with this wine.

Today, Masi produces five different Amarones, the widest and most qualified range offered to the international market. For almost fifty years, it has initiated an ambitious project to enhance historic wine estates, collaborating with the Counts Serego Alighieri, descendants of the poet Dante, owners of the estate that in Valpolicella boasts the longest history and tradition, and with the Counts Bossi Fedrigotti, prestigious Trentino brand with vineyards in Rovereto, to which the historic château in the heart of Valdobbiadene of Canevel Spumanti, a renowned cellar for its premium sparkling wines and part of the Masi group since late 2016, is added.

In 2023, Masi acquired the “Casa Re” estate in Oltrepò Pavese, a territory renowned for the production of Pinot Nero grapes for sparkling wine base. Masi bases its activity on social, ethical, and environmental values and has significant production of organic wines, both in the Veneto region and in the estates Poderi del Bello Ovile in Tuscany and Masi Tupungato in Argentina. In line with its heritage, Masi approved in March 2024 the sustainability project “Masi Green Governance” which sees the adoption of the status of Benefit Company and the integration into the corporate purpose of further activities for the common benefit, related to social growth, promotion and enhancement of the culture of the Veneto region, people, territory, and environment.
