Istituto Grandi Marchi: The Institute of Masters of Wine Introductory Course Returns to Italy

Istituto Grandi Marchi: vent'anni di successi e crescita internazionale nel vino italiano

The wine world is preparing for a prestigious event. After the forced break due to the pandemic, the introductory course of the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) returns to Italy, promoted by Istituto Grandi Marchi (IGM), a long-standing partner of the initiative. From March 26 to 29, 2026, this top-level training for aspiring wine professionals will be hosted by Rivera, in the heart of the Alta Murgia hills in Puglia.

Istituto Grandi Marchi and IMW: A 15-Year Collaboration

Continuing a partnership launched in 2012, Istituto Grandi Marchi reaffirms its commitment to supporting the growth of new professionals capable of telling the story of wine with expertise and an international outlook.

The introductory course represents the first step toward the prestigious Master of Wine title, one of the most rigorous and selective qualifications in the global wine industry.

From 2012 to 2019, thanks to the hospitality of IGM wine families, Italy hosted courses that contributed to the training of professionals now recognized as MWs: Gabriele Gorelli, Andrea Lonardi, and Pietro Russo. A result that demonstrates the value of this initiative for the reputation of Italian wine worldwide.

“We resume this liaison with great interest,” explains Piero Mastroberardino, President of Istituto Grandi Marchi, “aware of the immense value of the MW study program, which year after year continues to generate truly significant results for the Italian wine world. Opening the course to participants from all over the world means fostering international dialogue and strengthening Italy’s reputation as a benchmark for wine education. As ambassadors of the sector, we are committed to supporting those who, like us, promote wine in its entirety, spreading its multiple roles as a language, shared heritage, and vessel of stories and territories.”
