Morellino di Scansano once again tells its story through the judgment of some of the most authoritative professionals in Italian sommellerie. With the fourth edition of Morellino del Cuore, the project promoted by the Consorzio Tutela Morellino di Scansano DOCG together with wine journalists Roberta Perna and Antonio Stelli, ten wines have been selected that, according to a panel composed of Italian sommeliers from Michelin-starred restaurants, represent the most significant expressions of the denomination today. This edition also marks a historic novelty with the inclusion, for the first time, of the Morellino Superiore category.
A Project That Celebrates the Diversity of Morellino di Scansano
Created through the collaboration between the Consortium and journalists Roberta Perna and Antonio Stelli, Morellino del Cuore has established itself as one of the most representative projects of the Maremma denomination.
The initiative was created with the aim of enhancing the wine heritage of Morellino di Scansano through an annual selection of wines chosen by a panel of professionals called upon to evaluate the candidate labels exclusively through blind tasting.
A distinctive feature of the format is the alternation of tasters: one year the selection is entrusted to specialised wine journalists, while the following year it is assigned to leading figures from the world of Italian sommellerie. A mechanism that offers different and complementary perspectives on the evolution of the denomination.
Six Leading Italian Sommeliers Selected the Morellino del Cuore 2026 Winners
For the 2026 edition, the task of identifying the wines that best represent the denomination was entrusted to six sommeliers from some of Italy’s most prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants.
The panel consisted of Andrea De Luca from Enoteca Pinchiorri, Luca Bracali from Ristorante Bracali, Federico Latta from Taverna Estia, Enrico Moschella from George Restaurant, Rudy Travagli from Enoteca La Torre, and Andrea Puliga from Ristorante Iris.
The tasting panel selected the wines across the categories Annata, Superiore, Riserva, and Vecchia Annata, providing a broad and detailed interpretation of the different expressions of Morellino di Scansano DOCG.

The 10 Morellino del Cuore 2026 Wines
The final selection offers a snapshot of the diversity and quality that currently characterise the denomination.
In the Annata category, the selected wines were Germile 2024 by Tenuta Pietramora, 8380 2024 by Cantina 8380, and Doga delle Clavule 2024 by Doga delle Clavule.
In the Superiore category, which makes its debut in this year’s selection, the panel chose Roccapesta 2023 by Roccapesta, I Massi 2023 by Conte Guicciardini, and MDS 2023 by Morisfarms.
Among the Riserva wines, the selected labels were Roggiano Riserva 2022 by Cantina Vignaioli di Scansano, Madrechiesa 2022 by Terenzi, and Poggio al Leone 2022 by Val delle Rose.
In the Vecchia Annata category, the selection fell on Heba 2009 by La Fattoria di Magliano, highlighting the ageing potential that Morellino di Scansano is capable of expressing over time.
The Debut of the Morellino Superiore Category
The 2026 edition carries particular significance thanks to the presence of the new Morellino Superiore category.
The inclusion of this category within the project was made possible by the recent amendment to the denomination’s production regulations and represents a significant step in the qualitative evolution of Morellino di Scansano.
This development further expands the tools available for telling the story of the different production identities of the Maremma territory.
To underline the significance of the initiative, the President of the Consorzio Tutela Morellino di Scansano DOCG stated:
“Over the years, Morellino del Cuore has become one of the most significant projects promoted by the Consortium for the enhancement of the denomination. Created through the collaboration with journalists Roberta Perna and Antonio Stelli, its objective is to provide, every year, a moment of reflection and comparison, never competitive in nature, within the denomination, allowing its evolution to be observed through the work of the wineries and their wines. This year once again, the tasting panel, composed of authoritative professionals from the Italian restaurant sector, found a high and consistently strong quality level across the board: a result that makes us particularly proud. This edition also carries special significance because, thanks to the recent amendment to the production regulations, it has been possible to introduce the Morellino Superiore category for the first time. An important innovation that further enriches the project and testifies to the growth path and continuous evolution of our denomination.”
The Morellino del Cuore 2026 selection confirms the dynamism of one of the most representative denominations of the Tuscan Maremma.
Produced predominantly from Sangiovese grapes, Morellino di Scansano DOCG continues to stand out for its elegance, freshness and gastronomic versatility, but also for an ageing capacity that is increasingly recognised by wine industry professionals.
