A fleet of drones over the Oltrepò Pavese vineyards. An initiative aimed at responding to the drop in yields of the 2024 harvest, considered one of the least productive in the recent history of the area. A new data-driven approach born from the agreement between the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese and Terre d’Oltrepò, a leading cooperative in the area, capable of joining forces to address the drop in production of the harvest that began in recent days. “The shared will of the new management of the Consortium is to introduce every resource to guarantee the continuity of the winemaking system and support its restart”, is explained in a joint note made public. “In this context, the ability to act promptly, even at an institutional level, is essential to minimize the impacts of the emergency. To maximize the effectiveness of interventions, data collection and analysis are indispensable tools. Today, technology can make a great contribution, allowing for faster and more in-depth monitoring”. Starting today, Terre d’Oltrepò and the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese will implement an innovative plan to enhance the diagnostics of the state of the vineyards. A small fleet of drones will fly over the rows of the members of the largest wine cooperative in Lombardy, providing an accurate estimate of the damage suffered by the crops.
Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese and Terre d’Oltrepò Agreement, Drones in the Vineyards: New Data-Driven Approach in Response to One of the Least Productive 2024 Harvests in Recent History
The new data-driven approach implemented with the agreement between Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese and Terre d’Oltrepò represents a significant step forward for the territory, improving data collection and analysis and facilitating the diagnosis of the necessary measures.
Furthermore, this is an important initiative, the one that brings drones to fly over the rows, also at an institutional level, since it will allow to provide the Lombardy Region and the Government with a precise assessment of the state of the vineyards in the Oltrepò Pavese.

“The use of technology represents a further step towards a more precise and modern management of the vineyards,” explains Umberto Callegari, CEO of Terre d’Oltrepò. “Our will is, and remains, to welcome innovation and adopt a managerial management that will help us make Oltrepò a more performing and competitive system.”
Echoing the words of Francesca Seralvo, president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese, who concludes:
“The support that the Terre d’Oltrepò group is offering to the Consortium in this very complicated year is fundamental for our shared relaunch plan. Being able to count on a team of agronomists and a small fleet of drones will be crucial to accurately estimate the real damage that this difficult year is causing us, allowing us to react in a concrete and timely manner. This is another small important step that the Consortium has decided to take for the protection of all producers.”
