Oniwines expands its horizons with the addition of Pico Maccario to the project. This continues the brand’s commitment to offering a dynamic and diversified wine portfolio, with a youthful, fresh, and contemporary winemaking and communication style. Founded in 1997 by brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario, the eponymous winery is an icon of Monferrato and among the most recognized names in the Piedmontese wine scene. Present today in over 48 countries worldwide, the company produces some of the region’s most iconic appellations—Barolo, Barbaresco, Nizza, Barbera, Gavi, and Moscato—from estate-owned vineyards located in the most suitable areas of Monferrato and the Langhe, in Piedmont.
Pico Maccario has always been distinguished by a strong connection between wine, terroir, art, and its visual identity, symbolically represented by its unmistakable colored pali-pencilita (pencil sticks), which over time have become a veritable art installation and one of the company’s most recognizable hallmarks.

“Like many good things in life, we hadn’t planned or sought out the acquisition of Pico Maccario. The opportunity arose naturally,” comments Federico Veronesi, CEO and Owner of Oniwines. “Pico Maccario represents exactly what we’re looking for: a solid company that produces elegant, dynamic wines that reflect contemporary tastes. It’s a modern winery, both in terms of vineyard management and image, perfectly in tune with the Oniwines DNA. The project continues what we’ve built so far.”
Oniwines will operate in accordance with the values and organization that distinguish Pico Maccario, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and the agronomic and enological teams will be integrated into the Group. The brand image will remain unchanged; on the contrary, we will work to further consolidate the winery’s fresh and youthful image.
Oniwines and Pico Maccario join forces to tell the story of Piedmont with a new language
“This acquisition represents the beginning of a new phase of development,” says Vitaliano Maccario. “We have found in Federico and his family the right spirit to continue our journey. I truly believe in the transmission of value between families: Pico originates with our grandfather, and today we are happy to entrust it to other family entrepreneurs with a modern, concrete, and international vision.”
Pico Maccario’s entry into Oniwines represents not only a significant strengthening of the Group’s portfolio, but also a clear signal of the Group’s desire to invest in Italy’s great wine regions, with a multifaceted and contemporary perspective.
“Consumers today seek freshness, elegance, but also lightness and authenticity,” concludes Veronesi. “And Pico Maccario embodies all of this. We want to continue to tell the story of Piedmont with a new, accessible language, without losing the profound connection with the vineyard and the land, where everything begins.”
