Solidarity harvest and Springo line: Le Manzane tells the story of the hills of Prosecco Superiore

There are different ways to explain one’s belonging to a territory. It is normally something that for a winery comes first of all from a glass, with the colorful nuances of the most suitable corners of a Denomination to be expertly enclosed in a bottle. But the path to true sustainability, beyond the mere environmental meaning, often rhymes with solidarity. This is what happens on the renowned Prosecco Superiore Hills, proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7 July 2019. Here, halfway between the Dolomites and Venice, the Le Manzane winery has been rooted for over 40 years. Among the most dynamic and interesting realities today in the wine scene of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the San Pietro di Feletto company led by the Balbinot family has been the protagonist of the “Solidarity Harvest – Festival and Charity in the Land of Prosecco Superiore” for more than a decade. An event open to all which, for the past 13 editions, has been a privileged moment for a double harvest: the manual harvest of the grapes, which revives the ancient peasant rite in these countryside, and the harvest of funds, an opportunity to support the activities of the numerous organizations sustained over the years. A trait d’union between the gestures that define the daily life of work in the vineyard, the safeguarding of a tradition that is not left to wither and horizons that lead well beyond the rows and the cellar. For a sense of belonging which then takes on the forms of the Springo line in the bottle, a story of Rive and traditions that return.

The 2024 Solidarity Harvest

The “Solidarity Harvest – Celebration and Charity in the Land of Prosecco Superiore” is a commitment from which this year Cè Da Fare will benefit, a non-profit association founded in 2023 by the popular Genoese actor and comedian Paolo Kessisoglu, founded with the aim of creating psychological support projects for adolescents in difficulty.

A new cause that adds to those that to date have led thousands of enthusiasts to take part in a day that also allows an immersion in the “heroic” effort that has always defined the bubbles that take shape on the slopes of these impervious hills, determining their character.

As demonstrated by the Springo line, a range of wines that Le Manzane dedicates to exploring the essence and terroirs of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg, in a journey in the bottle that ranges between the specificity of each of the Rive chosen precisely for their non-replicable souls, the golden pentagon of the 106 hectares of Cartizze and ancestral methods that return to peep out for modern and unpublished stories.

The first, in chronological order, to kick off the series was, in 2015, Springo Bronze, Conegliano Prosecco Superiore Rive di Manzana Docg Dry: the fruit of Glera grapes rich in aromas and acidity selected on the Manzana Hill in the municipality of Vittorio Veneto, one of the 43 Rive elected and authorized in the entire Denomination area. The result is an extraordinary wine with an intense aroma, with character, which repays the effort and work of the women and men who strongly believed in the choice of producing from the vines clinging to the steepest hills a bubble that amazes with its fresh flavour, but creamy, harmonious, persistent and enveloping.

An expression that was joined, in 2016, by Springo Blue, a limited edition characterized by a residual sugar of 2 g/l, Conegliano Prosecco Superiore Rive di Formeniga Docg Extra Brut “laid bare” to show the most authentic snapshot of this special terroir, also located within the municipality of Vittorio Veneto. His character is the same as his predecessor: exuberant and charismatic. For an elegant sparkling wine that stimulates the senses and gives emotions, thanks to its fresh, savory and harmonious taste.

A totally different taste from what was, in 2022, the third chapter written by the Balbinot family, with the line enriched with the arrival of Springo Green. In this case, we are not talking about the peculiarities of a specific shade of Rive, but about a search for its origins: Conegliano Prosecco Superiore Docg Brut Nature Sui Lieviti, contains in the glass the secrets handed down by Osvaldo Balbinot, Ernesto’s father and Marco’s grandfather and Anna. “A return to the past, but with today’s wine knowledge”, underlines Ernesto Balbinot regarding Springo Green. “A sustainable version of our Prosecco Superiore, the most intact possible, but certainly not the easiest to obtain”. In fact, this too is a limited edition, from grapes, harvested in late September and slightly overripe to give depth and intensity to the wine, which come from a vineyard managed according to the Sqnpi sustainability criteria in the village of San Michele, a hamlet of the Municipality of San Pietro di Feletto where the company is based: a vineyard with reddish soil, rich in iron, with unique characteristics which translate into the glass with delicate floral aromas.

A creation that speaks of tradition on the Hills of Prosecco Superiore, exactly like the latest addition to the line, in 2023: Springo Gold. This is, in fact, the name of the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore di Cartizze Docg signed Le Manzane, for which the winery has chosen to opt for the most typical of the interpretations, the Dry version, which is usually given to the main place of choice for the ripening of Glera grapes. The qualitative pinnacle of the Denomination which is revealed with its extraordinary complexity: on the nose, the protagonists are the hints of wisteria, green apple, pear, peach, apricot and notes of tropical fruits, a particularity that derives from the soil rich in minerals of marine origin which distinguishes the famous golden pentagon of Prosecco Superiore. In the mouth, Springo Gold stands out for its rich, full and consistent flavour. Elegant and harmonious, it is configured as a unique and exclusive sensorial experience, which leads, like the other labels of the most prestigious line of Le Manzane, to immerse yourself in the extraordinary beauty of a territory that just asks to be listened to.
