Tenuta Luce introduces Lux Vitis 2020

Tenuta Luce, the Gruppo Marchesi Frescobaldi’s Montalcino-based wine estate, announces release to the international markets of Lux Vitis 2020. The new vintage amply exemplifies how Nature and the Winemaker collaborated with superb synergy, fashioning a complex, elegant wine with a near-endless progression and finish.

“The new vintage of Lux Vitis is once again the result of the dedication and passion of the entire Tenuta Luce Team, who have leveraged the climatic conditions of the year 2020,” says Alessandro Marini, Technical Director of Tenuta Luce. He continues, “The result is a powerful and elegant wine that stands out for its aromatic complexity and great finesse.”

Tenuta Luce introduces Lux Vitis 2020, a Growing Year. New Vintage for the Marchesi Frescobaldi’s Montalcino-based wine estate in Montalcino.

Lux Vitis 2020: power and elegance in superb balance

Appearing an intense ruby red, Lux Vitis 2020 impresses with its stylish refinement and multi-layered complexity. The nose releases notes of redcurrant, well-ripened fruit, and sweet violets, lifted by a touch of cocoa powder. Full-bodied yet velvet-smooth on entry, the palate is beautifully supported by a refreshing acidity and elegant, enfolding tannins. Pungent impressions of roast espresso bean and wild herbs grace a finish that seems near-endless.

The grapes for Lux Vitis 2020 are grown in the Campolungo vineyard, a small estate Cabernet Sauvignon parcel planted in 2004 in mixed-sandy soils, where conditions allow this grape variety to fully express its innate qualities, gifting a wine of great elegance. A small amount of Sangiovese from the Caselli vineyard gives Lux Vitis further character.

Wine-lovers can savour Lux Vitis 2020 at select wine-bars and restaurants.

The New Vintage: a Growing Year in Montalcino

A mild, dry winter ushered in the 2020 season, encouraging an early budbreak, starting in the second week of March for Sangiovese and in the third for Cabernet Sauvignon. Weather conditions remained mild in spring, with average rainfall, largely in March and May, ensuring ideal vine-growth through flowering, which occurred slightly early, in the last week in May.

Rain returned during the first three weeks of June, providing the vines providential support for the hot, dry summer through the end of August. Two periods of rain lowered temperatures, relieving the vines and spurring cluster development.

The early start to the growing season was mirrored in the beginning of harvest, on a sunny, mild 24 September. At harvest, the grapes were healthy and sound, with outstanding phenolic ripeness and extraordinarily-fine aromatic precursors.

About Tenuta Luce

Tenuta Luce lies southwest of the town of Montalcino, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia Natural Park, a rural landscape sensitively re-designed by man in the pre-Renaissance era and declared by Unesco in 2004 a World Heritage Site.

This extraordinary corner of earth, historically renowned for its world-class wines, hosts the 249 hectares of the Luce wine estate, set among woods and olive groves, with 92 hectares of vineyards: a lightly-inhabited, near-pristine ambiance rich in biodiversity.

Its brilliant sunlight; crisp air and well-ventilated conditions, gift of its unique exposure; and its diversity of soils and elevations all combine to make Tenuta Luce a truly privileged place, where the equilibrium of all these components is jealously respected and protected. That respect is reflected in the winemaking as well, where every step in the process is performed with meticulous care, to preserve the nonpareil harmony achieved in the vineyard.

The fruits of this enlightened philosophy and unmatchable terroir are the Tenuta Luce wines: Luce, Lucente, Luce Brunello, and Lux Vitis, the culmnation of an ambitious project begun in the early 1990s aimed at obtaining the fullest expression of the Montalcino zone yet with an utterly distinctive individual style.
