Everything is ready for the harvest of the first bunches of grapes in Champagne. The 2025 harvest has arrived. The CIVC revealed the start dates, cru by cru, on Wednesday, September 20th. As always, nothing has been left to chance in the production of the world’s most beloved sparkling wine, the highlight of the Champagne year: starting with the choice of the day to apply the first pruning shears. The 2025 harvest, moreover, promises to be special, one of the earliest in the last 40 years, thanks to rapid grape ripening and exceptional health. As per established tradition, the dates are defined vine by vine and municipality by municipality, in order to ensure a harvest of perfectly ripe grapes.
All the dates of the 2025 Champagne harvest
The Comité Champagne has announced that the official start will take place this Friday, August 22nd, with the latest start scheduled for September 4th. However, the first prunings have already been made, due to an acceleration in ripening that has led the winemakers of Montgueux, in the Aube region, to benefit from an exemption to begin the first harvest operations as early as yesterday, August 19th.
Among the most notable municipalities in Champagne, the 2025 harvest will begin on August 22nd in Les-Riceys for Pinot Noir and Meunier. The same day, but also including Chardonnay, will be the start for Ambonnay, while in Avize and Le-Mesnil-Sur-Oger, the start will be on August 26th, as will Ay, Vertus, Mareuil-Sur-Ay, Cramant, and Oger. In Bouzy, however, the start has been announced for August 25th, as will Chouilly, Verzy, and Verzenay. For Cumieres, the harvest begins on August 23rd.
The 2025 harvest in Champagne in the Marne region concludes on September 4th with the Chardonnay from Branscourt and Orbais and the Pinot Noir from Branscourt and Rosnay.
