The Consorzio Collio continues its journey towards sustainability, in its role as Associated Operator of the National Integrated Production Quality System (Sqnpi). Not only that: it is increasingly receiving requests from local companies to obtain certification, a symbol of the concrete responsibility of wineries for a more sustainable future.
Promote wine production with attention to the territory
A journey that the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Collio (this year it turns 60) began in 2021, becoming an Associated Operator for obtaining the Sqnpi Brand. The aim of this important project is to enhance the promotion of wine production that pays maximum attention to the territory. With great satisfaction, in recent years, the Consortium has noted a significant increase in companies that have joined the group of requesting wineries and the numbers speak for themselves.
The Sqnpi certification in 2021 involved 13 companies, which became 28 for a surface area of approximately 570 ha in 2024. These companies, which requested certification in an associated form through the opportunity provided by the Consortium, are added to those that have achieved it individually for several years, bringing the territory to a total of approximately 900 ha certified Sqnpi and approximately 200 ha certified Bio in 2023.

The Consorzio Collio and Sqnpi certification
For the Consortium, which has always had the sustainability of viticultural and oenological practices at heart, the Sqnpi certification represents the official recognition of the modus operandi of its companies.
These are concrete steps towards safeguarding the environment that lay the foundations for a more sustainable tomorrow. The goal is to obtain certification for the entire territory and deliver into the hands of future generations a Collio capable of expressing itself at its best. Collio is a wonderful wine-growing region whose uniqueness and specificity are also confirmed by the data.
With a surface area of approximately 1,300 ha, it produced a total of approximately 7,300,000 bottles in 2023, a slight increase of 0.13% compared to 2022 and which has been following a positive trend year after year since 2019 (+ 9%). This last 2024 harvest took place at the end of a complex agricultural year from a meteorological point of view, which led to a drop in production but, with perfectly healthy grapes of excellent quality.
“We are aware that we are responsible custodians of a productive and cultural heritage of rare value,” said Lavinia Zamaro, director of the Collio Consortium. “And for us it becomes essential to draw up guidelines for a viticulture that respects people and nature. With our contribution we can all work together to safeguard the environment and at the same time find sustainable solutions from a productive and also economic-financial point of view for our producers, who represent a fundamental supply chain, creator of value, for the entire region.”
Integrated Production (Sqnpi) is an “agri-food production system that uses all the methods and means of production and defense against adversities of agricultural production aimed at reducing to a minimum the use of synthetic chemical substances and rationalizing agronomic techniques, in compliance with ecological, economic and toxicological principles” (art. 2 paragraph 4 L.4 of 3 February 2011). Starting from 2023, the ReteRurale system has established the Sqnpi Observatory.
