Change of ownership for one of the symbols of Sardinian wine. On October 17, the Pala family made official the sale of the winery and vineyards, mainly in the municipality of Serdiana, to Tolaini of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The agreement also includes the sale of Mora&Memo, a company launched by Elisabetta Pala in 2011.
“The decision to sell was made in full agreement with my wife and children,” comments Mario Pala, owner of the winery, “so that Pala can continue to represent Sardinian excellence in the world of wine and allow it to grow as it deserves. We have been working with Lia Tolaini for over twenty years: she is the one who distributes our wines on the American market through Banville Wine Merchants, which she chairs. She knows our reality thoroughly and we appreciate the commitment, dedication and love she has always shown for Pala and for Sardinia. We are confident that, under his guidance, the winery will reach new and ambitious goals.”

Lia Tolaini expressed her enthusiasm for the acquisition as follows:
“It is an honor to continue what Mario has achieved over the last forty years. He has transformed the company founded by his father into a modern reality, among the most appreciated and innovative in the Sardinian wine scene with extreme attention to quality and total loyalty to its roots, the same ones to which I want to keep it anchored”.
The new ownership will be supported by the historic staff of the winery, including Fabio Angius who takes on the role of CEO and will continue to coordinate sales strategies on the national and international markets.
“Our goal”, concludes Lia Tolaini, “is to further strengthen the Pala brand by expanding the offer thanks to new investments in the territory. We want to guarantee a strategic development of the brands and create value for both the local community and the economy of the island”.
The story of Pala
The Pala family’s passion for viticulture began in the early 1900s with Battistino Pala, born in 1873. His son Salvatore founded the Pala winery in Serdiana, a few kilometers from Cagliari, in 1950.
The company grew and in 1974 Salvatore moved it to the center of town, in a larger space that retained the typical structure of the Campidano house: a courtyard delimited by fairly high perimeter walls, where the main building was built in wood and tiles.
His son Mario, in the decade 1980-1990, began the renovation of the vineyards and studied how to refine quality and production. In addition to Nuragus and Monica, he planted vineyards of Vermentino, Bovale and Cannonau, whose reserve has won many awards.
Today, the change of ownership, with the closing of the sales agreement with Lia Tolaini, head of the Tolaini winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena), by the Pala family.
