A new Grand Cru for Alsace wines. The news comes directly from Colmar, with the announcement by the Comité Interprofessionnel des Vins d’Alsace of the extension of the AOC Alsace Grand Cru denomination to a third terroir. After Kirchberg de Barr and Hengst in 2022, it is now turn for Vorbourg to be recognized as an area in which to produce Pinot Noir with the prestigious appellation. The legitimation of the AOC Alsace Grand Cru designation, arrived at by decree of 4 July 2024 published in the Journal Officiel of 7 July, is the recognition of the work carried out by the winemakers, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. A process, that of obtaining the status of AOC Alsace Grand Cru, began several decades ago. The determination of Alsatian vignerons and their commitment towards even more defined excellence have now been rewarded.
The birth of the Grand Cru Vorbourg has been made official: a new summit of quality for the Pinot Noir of Alsace wines
The official decision sanctioning the birth of the Grand Cru Vorbourg confirms the high quality of the Pinot Noir produced on this terroir and strengthens its positioning among the great vines of the Alsatian wine region.
The Grand Cru Vorbourg is located in the municipalities of Rouffach (95%) and Westhalten, at the foot of the Grand Ballon and Petit Ballon d’Alsace, on a limestone-sandy terroir, with an altitude between 210 and 300 metres. Its 73.61 hectares occupy the hilly part facing south / south-east.

The wines of the Grand Cru Vorbourg are full-bodied and elegant at the same time. Their strong character derives from the clay, while the fine and saline minerality is linked to the presence of limestone.
Pinot Noir has an intense and brilliant red color. The aromas of red and black fruits mix with mineral notes. The structure is silky with fine tannins.
The minerality of Vorbourg is also expressed thanks to aromas reminiscent of graphite and liquorice. For wines that are characterized by their great aging potential.
