In a move that underscores its long-term growth ambitions, Wilson Daniels has appointed Gayle Bartscherer as Vice President of Business Development, effective April 20. Reporting directly to President Rocco Lombardo, Bartscherer will lead supplier relationships and portfolio development across both domestic and international markets—an increasingly critical function as fine wine distribution evolves in complexity and scale.
For industry observers and international producers, the appointment signals a clear intent: to further refine Wilson Daniels’ positioning as a leading platform for premium and luxury wine brands.
A Strategic Role at a Pivotal Moment
Bartscherer’s mandate is both broad and highly strategic. Her responsibilities include identifying new distribution opportunities, shaping portfolio strategy, and driving supplier development, while also overseeing digital and e-commerce growth initiatives. She will work cross-functionally with both national and wholesale divisions, reinforcing integration across the company’s commercial structure.
The timing is significant. Wilson Daniels has spent more than a decade expanding its portfolio with a focus on family-owned, heritage-driven producers, building partnerships with names such as Familia Torres, Domaine Faiveley, GAJA and Chateau Montelena. The next phase appears to be less about scale alone and more about strategic curation and market execution.

Gayle Bartscherer: Deep Industry Experience Across Global Markets
Bartscherer brings more than 25 years of experience in the wine industry, with a strong track record across international sales, marketing and direct-to-consumer channels.
She began her career in 2000 and later joined Jackson Family Wines, where she rose to Senior Vice President of International Sales and Marketing. In that role, she managed global operations for more than 50 brands across over 100 markets—an experience that positions her at the intersection of brand development and international distribution.
She subsequently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and DTC Officer at The Duckhorn Portfolio, overseeing a team of 120 professionals. Most recently, she was Chief Executive Officer of LiveWine, a direct-to-consumer marketplace designed to offer a sustainable route-to-market for wineries of all sizes.
This combination of global market expertise, brand strategy and digital fluency aligns closely with the evolving needs of premium wine distribution.
Strengthening Go-To-Market Strategy in Fine Wine
According to President Rocco Lombardo, the appointment reflects a desire to further enhance Wilson Daniels’ go-to-market capabilities.
The company’s growth strategy has historically been anchored in building long-term partnerships with producers that embody terroir, authenticity and regional benchmark status. With Bartscherer’s experience in both international markets and direct-to-consumer models, the focus now shifts toward optimising how those wines reach the market.
Her arrival also reinforces the company’s leadership structure at a time when fine wine distribution is increasingly influenced by digital channels, consumer engagement strategies and portfolio storytelling.
A Platform for Luxury Wine Partnerships
Founded in 1978, Wilson Daniels has built its reputation as a fully integrated, family-owned marketing and sales company representing a highly selective portfolio of globally recognised producers. The company continues to operate with a clear philosophy: developing long-term strategic partnerships with wineries that combine heritage, terroir expression and craftsmanship.
In this context, Bartscherer’s appointment is not merely a leadership change—it is a reinforcement of that identity, combined with a forward-looking approach to market development.
Looking Ahead: Growth Through Precision and Partnership
As she assumes the role from her base in Napa, Bartscherer steps into a company positioned at a critical juncture. The challenge—and opportunity—lies in balancing portfolio expansion with strategic clarity, ensuring that each addition strengthens the overall identity of Wilson Daniels in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
For international producers and buyers alike, the message is clear: Wilson Daniels is entering its next phase with a sharpened focus on portfolio precision, global reach and modern distribution dynamics.
