Italia del Vino Consortium Closes 2025 with Positive Results: Irpinia Returns with Donnachiara

The Italia del Vino Consortium ends 2025 with results that confirm its central role in the national and international wine scene. With total revenue exceeding €1.5 billion, an export share equal to about 15% of the national total, and ownership of 15,000 hectares of vineyards, the group consolidates its position as a benchmark for promoting Italian wine worldwide. Today, the consortium includes 24 companies across 18 regions, committed to enhancing territories and supporting member businesses. The year closes with the news of Irpinia’s return thanks to the entry of Donnachiara, joining Angelini Wines & Estates, Banfi, Bisol1542, Cà Maiol, Collis Heritage, Di Majo Norante, Diesel Farm, Drei Donà, Duca di Salaparuta, Ferrari F.lli Lunelli, Gruppo Italiano Vini, Gruppo Mezzacorona, Herita Marzotto Wine Estates, Le Monde, Librandi Antonio e Nicodemo, Lunae Bosoni, Marchesi di Barolo, Medici Ermete & Figli, Mesa, Oniwines, Terre de La Custodia, Torrevento, and Zonin1821.

“In 2025, the wine market in Italy recorded a further slowdown in consumption: household purchases are more selective, daily consumption continues to decline, and the weight of special occasions is growing—where whites, rosés, and especially sparkling wines show better performance compared to traditional reds,” explains Roberta Corrà, President of the Italia del Vino Consortium. “It’s not a collapse, but a steady erosion linked both to the cost of living and to a cultural shift: the average Italian consumer drinks less but chooses more carefully, favoring freshness, versatility, and drinkability.”

This trend is also reflected in foreign markets: the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom report declining volumes compared to 2024, due to persistent inflation, cautious distribution, and the introduction of U.S. tariffs on European wine.

“Even in this case, demand rewards the most contemporary segments, with Prosecco remaining the locomotive of Italian exports and continuing to grow as a comfort category even in contexts of economic uncertainty,” adds Corrà.

Outlook for 2026 and Focus on Training

Looking ahead, the Consortium foresees a more favorable scenario:

“A moderate rebound in demand is plausible, driven by whites and sparkling wines, and by more modern communication capable of engaging new consumer segments. Companies that can interpret contemporary languages and speak to younger targets will have an advantage. This is also why we launched the Wine Business Academy: an advanced training course for the wine managers of tomorrow, in collaboration with Luiss Business School, which has just completed its first module,” concludes Corrà.

The training program, supported by Gate 39, Veronafiere, Colangelo & Partners, and Wine Enthusiast, will include a curricular internship in Consortium member companies, an experience that will form the basis of the final project work. The Graduation Ceremony at the end of March will be followed by a press conference at Vinitaly 2026, where students offered collaboration contracts will be announced.

Irpinia Returns to Italia del Vino with Donnachiara

The Italia del Vino Consortium also announces the return of Campania thanks to the entry of Donnachiara, a winery founded in 2005 by Chiara Petitto and now led by her daughter Ilaria Petitto.

The company, with vineyards in Montefalcione and the historic estate of Torre le Nocelle, specializes in the three Irpinia DOCGs—Fiano di Avellino, Taurasi, and Greco di Tufo—alongside traditional Aglianico and Falanghina. This addition strengthens regional representation and confirms the consortium’s commitment to promoting territorial excellence.

Italia del Vino thus reaffirms itself as a strategic network for Italian wine, capable of combining economic growth, internationalization, and training, with the goal of tackling the challenges of an evolving market and promoting the Italian lifestyle worldwide.
