Querce Bettina presents the new harvest of its signature wine: the Brunello di Montalcino 2021 Docg, an authentic expression of Sangiovese Grosso and the most classic, suited terroir of Montalcino. Born on the south-western hills of Montalcino, at around 450 meters above sea level, the Vigna Alta – twenty-six years old, south-southwest facing, on clay-limestone soil rich in skeleton – represents the estate’s most elegant and deep soul. Here, Sangiovese Grosso grows in natural balance, in full respect of organic farming principles, producing clusters of extraordinary quality and concentration.
Brunello di Montalcino 2021 Docg: characteristics
The hand-harvested grapes, picked between late September and early October, were perfectly ripe and healthy, thanks to a regular climate pattern and a bright summer. After destemming, without pressing, whole-berry fermentation took place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures (26–28 °C), with manual punch-downs and pump-overs for 20–25 days, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation in wood. Aging continued for 24 months in French oak barrels, followed by at least eight months of bottle maturation, in accordance with regulations that stipulate release no earlier than five years after the harvest.

The Brunello di Montalcino 2021 Docg Querce Bettina shows an intense ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherry, plum, dried violet, and sweet spices, followed by balsamic and forest-floor hints. On the palate, it is harmonious, broad, and persistent, with elegant tannins and a freshness that balances its structure. The finish is long, mineral, and profound, typical of the vineyard’s calcareous soils. Thanks to its complexity and structured profile, the 2021 Brunello pairs perfectly with rich and savory dishes: from grilled red meat, such as a Florentine steak, to braised preparations in concentrated tomato sauces, like the traditional peposo, as well as aged cheeses, from Pecorino to alpine products. These pairings enhance its aromatic nuances and persistence, making every tasting a complete experience.
Querce Bettina: a new chapter for the estate
With the 2021 harvest, Querce Bettina opens a new chapter in its history, following its acquisition by La Faretra in August 2025. This transition preserves the identity of Montalcino while enhancing sustainability, natural quality, and the constant pursuit of excellence. The new ownership has also initiated a project to renovate and expand the winery, making the production space more functional, welcoming, and aligned with environmental protection and territorial valorization.
