A renewed Consortium looking to the future: this is the scenario that emerges from the general assembly of the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium, which today, 27 March, in Costigliole d’Asti, elected the new Board of Directors and appointed Filippo Mobrici as the new president. A choice that reflects continuity but also vision, confirming the path of valorisation undertaken in recent years under the leadership of Vitaliano Maccario, with the aim of further strengthening the role of the Denomination in both national and international markets.
Filippo Mobrici president with seven new board members
The new Board includes 18 confirmed members and seven new entries, bringing fresh energy, new perspectives and a contemporary sensibility aligned with the global challenges ahead for the wine sector. It is a team that represents the broad and diverse identity of Monferrato—rooted in strong territorial foundations yet ready to engage with rapidly evolving market dynamics.
“Taking on the leadership of the Consortium at this moment is a source of great satisfaction and responsibility,” says newly elected president Filippo Mobrici. “We approach the upcoming Vinitaly with a renewed Board of Directors and a clear intention to further strengthen our dialogue with international markets. In recent years, the sector has faced a particularly dynamic scenario, marked by constant change and new competitive challenges. For this reason, our commitment will be to continue the work already underway, consolidating established relationships while also looking toward emerging markets, increasingly interested in wines that combine quality, identity and immediacy. In this journey, we carry forward the legacy of my predecessor, Vitaliano Maccario, whom I thank for strengthening dialogue with national and international stakeholders and for the work carried out during a particularly complex three‑year period.”

The new presidency now looks to the future with a clear objective: ensuring continuity while focusing on quality, identity and communicative immediacy—values that make Barbera d’Asti a wine capable of engaging emerging markets and new generations of consumers.
Supporting the new president will be vice presidents Lorenzo Giordano (Cantina Sociale di Vinchio e Vaglio Serra) and Giorgio Gozzelino (Cascina Castlet). Both highlighted the communicative strength and authenticity of Barbera d’Asti as strategic assets for speaking to today’s audience.
“Barbera d’Asti has all the characteristics needed to speak to contemporary consumers: it is a wine with a strong identity yet immediate, authentic and accessible,” says Lorenzo Giordano. “Our goal is to continue presenting it as an increasingly pop, recognisable and consumer‑friendly wine, capable of combining quality, versatility and conviviality. A language that allows Barbera to connect with new generations of wine lovers and with increasingly dynamic markets.”
Giorgio Gozzelino echoes this:
“The value of Barbera d’Asti and the wines of Monferrato is rooted above all in the daily work of producers and in the deep bond with a unique territory—its hills, soils and winemaking traditions that have shaped its identity for generations. Our commitment will be to further strengthen teamwork among producers, institutions and the supply chain, so that these denominations can continue to serve as credible ambassadors of Monferrato around the world and convey the value of a territory where viticulture represents one of its highest expressions.”
Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines: a Board of Directors that reflects the territory
The new Board of Directors of the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium is composed of 25 members, including historic wineries, social cooperatives, family‑run estates and leading brands from the area.
A map that fully reflects the productive richness of Monferrato and embraces the diversity of styles and identities that are making Barbera d’Asti and the other protected denominations increasingly recognisable.
Founded in 1946, the Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium now safeguards 12 denominations and represents over 430 member companies. Its mission is clear: to guarantee the quality, image and promotion of Monferrato wines in Italy and abroad through daily work in promotion, protection and territorial stewardship.
The important milestone of the Consortium’s 80th anniversary, which falls in 2026, thus becomes an opportunity to celebrate a collective journey that unites producers, institutions and local communities in a shared vision.
