Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie Takes the Podium: First Still Wine to Celebrate the Giro d’Italia 2026

Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie steps into the spotlight as Official Wine of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, marking a symbolic shift in the relationship between wine and major sporting events. For the first time in the history of the Giro’s official podium ceremonies, a still wine will accompany the winners’ celebrations, replacing the traditional sparkling‑wine format and introducing a new visual and identity‑driven narrative to sporting ritual.

The partnership extends beyond the Giro d’Italia to include the Giro d’Italia Women and Giro Next Gen, as part of a three‑year agreement between the Consorzio DOC Delle Venezie and RCS Sports & Events.

The Giro d’Italia as a Global Platform for Italian Wine

Starting on 8 May in Bulgaria and entering Italy on 12 May with the Catanzaro–Cosenza stage, the Giro d’Italia 2026 once again confirms its status as one of the most internationally followed sporting events, transforming into a travelling narrative of Italy.

Within this context, Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie gains global visibility that goes far beyond traditional sponsorship, becoming part of a storytelling ecosystem where territory, lifestyle and Italian culture intersect.

As Luca Rigotti, President of the Consorzio DOC Delle Venezie, explains:

“The Giro d’Italia represents an extraordinary global platform for Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie, allowing us to communicate an authentic, contemporary Italian style recognised worldwide. This partnership places us within a narrative of quality, territory and lifestyle, engaging a broad and international audience through one of the most iconic sporting events in the world.”

From the Toast to the Narrative: Wine as Part of the Ritual

The key element of the partnership lies not in brand visibility alone, but in integration into the Giro’s ceremonial language. Winners will toast from a large, Consortium‑branded glass, while the podium will feature a six‑litre bottle with a bespoke pink label, created specifically for trophy presentations.

This marks a paradigm shift: wine becomes an active component of the sporting imaginary, linking Pinot Grigio to values such as conviviality, celebration and Italian identity in a moment of maximum global exposure.

The Giro partnership fits into a broader strategy by the Consortium, aimed at engaging new audiences through high‑impact media events. The objective is to strengthen Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie as an ambassador of contemporary Italian style, capable of moving fluidly between sport, culture and lifestyle.

The initiative takes on added significance when viewed in light of the denomination’s scale. With 27,000 hectares of vineyards and approximately 230 million bottles produced, the DOC Delle Venezie system accounts for 85% of Italian Pinot Grigio and 43% of global production, representing one of Europe’s most significant examples of interregional integration between Veneto, Friuli‑Venezia Giulia and Trentino.

A New Language for Wine in Global Sporting Events

Bringing a still wine onto the Giro d’Italia podium goes beyond operational visibility. It signals a transformation in how wine communicates within global events, shifting the focus from category to identity and narrative power.

Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie thus becomes a storytelling instrument rather than a simple product—engaging international audiences through clear, recognisable symbols: the toast, the podium, the celebration.

In this sense, the Giro d’Italia 2026 partnership represents a strategic turning point. Placing a still wine at the heart of one of Italy’s most iconic sporting moments redefines the role of wine itself in contemporary communication.
