For the first time, Edoardo Freddi International is bringing abroad the model that has helped make it one of the leading players in export management for Italian wine. With the creation of Hiberica, a new company based in Spain dedicated to the international development of local wineries, EFI is taking a strategic step that marks the evolution of the group from a specialist operator in Italian wine to an international platform capable of connecting producers and distributors in the wine and premium spirits sectors. A project that fits into the broader EFI & Friends ecosystem and arrives during a phase of strong growth for the company founded by Edoardo Freddi.
Hiberica brings the EFI model to the heart of Spain’s wine industry
The new export management company was created with the aim of transferring to the Spanish context the experience gained by Edoardo Freddi International in global markets.
Hiberica supports wineries in defining export strategies, building international distribution networks, selecting commercial partners and enhancing brand value in major world markets.
Launched in the early months of 2026, the company already represents eight producers from some of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions, helping strengthen the international presence of wineries that share a strong territorial identity and a focus on quality.
A portfolio spanning Spain’s major denominations
Hiberica’s structure brings together companies from regions symbolic of Iberian viticulture.
Among the represented producers are Familia Martínez Bujanda, present in some of the country’s most important denominations, Bodegas Comenge in Ribera del Duero, Albariño Lagar do Batán in Rías Baixas and Laureado Brut, a contemporary expression of the D.O. Cava.
Overall, the portfolio includes producers cultivating more than 700 hectares of estate vineyards and already distributed in over 60 countries.
Supporting their development is part of EFI’s international team, which provides commercial, marketing and export management expertise to accelerate growth in foreign markets.

EFI & Friends expands its scope
The creation of Hiberica marks a new milestone in the development of EFI & Friends, the project designed to expand the group’s operational perimeter beyond the boundaries of Italian wine.
The goal is to develop new business models, new skills and new opportunities in different sectors and geographies, while keeping at the center the ability to create effective connections between producers and markets.
This strategy is also reflected in another major project of the group: Sapiens Spirits.
Sapiens Spirits also grows
Alongside expansion in Spain, EFI continues to invest in the premium spirits segment.
Sapiens Spirits is the project dedicated to producers oriented toward international markets who need support in distribution and promotion activities, with the group acting as a link between brands and the global network of distributors.
This choice demonstrates the intention to diversify the business model and to operate in categories with high growth potential, adding new specialist expertise alongside wine.
Edoardo Freddi International: 2026 grows after record results in 2025
International expansion comes after a particularly positive year for Edoardo Freddi International.
In 2025, the company managed more than €120 million in turnover and marketed 38 million bottles, operating in 112 countries.
The growth path continued in 2026. In the first half of the year, EFI recorded a 6% increase in turnover, consolidating its presence in over 115 international markets.
At the same time, the number of partner wineries rose to 68, while the team reached 40 specialized professionals.
Edoardo Freddi: “For the first time abroad, a model that has proven its effectiveness”
The strategic significance of the operation is explained by the company’s founder:
“In recent years we have understood that our future cannot be tied to a single geographical origin or a single product category. With Hiberica, we are bringing abroad for the first time a business model that has already proven its effectiveness in Italy on international markets. At the same time, we continue to invest in new segments through Sapiens Spirits, with the goal of building an ecosystem capable of creating concrete opportunities for producers and distributors.”
With Hiberica and Sapiens Spirits, Edoardo Freddi International consolidates a transformation that began in recent years. From a company created to support the internationalization of Italian wine, EFI is now evolving toward a broader and more articulated dimension, capable of operating across different markets, categories and distribution models.
The goal is not only to accompany companies abroad, but to build an international ecosystem capable of anticipating sector developments and generating new growth opportunities. The creation of Hiberica represents the first concrete step of this strategy beyond Italian borders and confirms the group’s intention to become a global reference point for the wine and spirits business.
