Andrea Rossi will be the president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano for the third consecutive term. He was appointed by the new Board of Directors of the Consortium, elected by the assembly last May 30, which met for the first time on the evening of Friday, June 6. The Board also wanted to confirm, also in this case for the third consecutive three-year term, the two vice-presidents, Susanna Crociani (Azienda Crociani) and Luca Tiberini (Azienda Tiberini).
“This unanimous confirmation for the entire presidency does not only concern what has been done by the Board, but the work of a team effort that has involved the entire social base of the Consortium that in recent years, thanks to a fruitful discussion, has led to important results, among all the sustainability certification and above all the project of the third typology of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, with the arrival of the Pievi”, were the first words of the reconfirmed president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Andrea Rossi. “I hope this new course can consolidate what has been done by looking at the future challenges of our sector that will concern the consolidation of the markets, but also a new vision of wine designed for the consumers of tomorrow”.
The Board of Directors of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, in addition to the president Andrea Rossi (Vecchia Cantina), the vice presidents Susanna Crociani and Luca Tiberini, is composed of the directors elected by the assembly last May 30:
Luca De Ferrari (Boscarelli), Pietro Riccobono (Tenuta Trerose – Bertani Domains), Marta Capucci (La Braccesca – Antinori) Antonio Donato (Tenute del Cerro), Luigi Frangiosa (La Ciarliana). For Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano, in addition to the president, Ilaria Chiasserini, Vinicio Del Toro, Rino Fontana and Filippo Neri were elected to the Board of Directors. The Board of Auditors is composed of the president Roberta Coveri and the members Giancarlo Vittori and Matteo Giustiniani (Avignonesi).

Who is Andrea Rossi, president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
Andrea Rossi, born in 1971, was elected president as a member of Vecchia Cantina, at the helm of which he was recently reconfirmed for the third term. Graduated from the Liceo Classico “A. Poliziano” in Montepulciano, he then graduated in Economics and Banking Sciences at the University of Siena.
Always at the side of the family in the agricultural company partner of Vecchia Cantina for over thirty years, Rossi can boast a long experience both in politics and as a local administrator. In 2009 and 2014 he was elected mayor of the Municipality of Montepulciano, a position he held until 2019.
It was during his legislature that the so-called “Montepulciano System” was born, a governance model based on the joint coordination of the main economic and attractive forces of the city in a promotional project awarded in Italy and around the world. Since 2023, Andrea Rossi has been president of Intesa, a publicly controlled company that operates in the public services sector in the provinces of Siena, Arezzo and Grosseto.
The future, between promotion and sustainability
“During the elective assembly, an important motion was voted unanimously, namely the increase in the cost of the band that we proposed to create an additional ceiling to be used in promotion projects – explains President Rossi looking at the new mandate that opens – an effort that each company has shared and accepted to continue to invest consistently at a time when doing so with community resources has become more complex and difficult in markets where the cost of services has in some cases doubled”.
Not only that. “Thanks to this commitment, our goal is to increase the presence of companies at consortium events, starting with the flagship one, the Preview of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which we hope to be able to do with all members present through a reduction or even elimination of the participation fee”, continues Andrea Rossi.
Among the initiatives planned is also the second edition of the Summer Solstice, the event that in 2024 has highlighted the attention to the denomination in the heart of the city of Montepulciano, Piazza Grande. In the next sessions, the referents of the internal commissions (Quality, Sustainability and Promotion) will also be appointed.
2024 was a positive year in value for the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano market. As for exports, last year it represented 65.5% (in 2023 it was 66%), while the remaining 34.5% is marketed in Italy. Direct sales in the company continue the growth trend of recent years, which in 2024 has now exceeded 35%. Furthermore, as regards the national market, the main sales are recorded in central Italy (62%) and in particular in Tuscany for 42%. In the north, 33% is sold and in the south 5.30%. As for foreign countries, the pie is divided in half between Europe and non-EU countries. 35% of exports go to America (between North and South), 29.2% to Europe (excluding Italy). Germany continues to be the Nobile’s leading market with 37% of the export share. The United States continues to grow, even compared to 2023, reaching 28% of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano exports. Canada’s growth trend continues, accounting for around 5% of exports alone. A truly significant figure is the market share of organic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which in the Italian panorama is worth 44.7% of sales, while at an international level it represents over 50% of overall sales.
