Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg: the Consortium heads to the United Kingdom

Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg: The Protection Consortium returns to the United Kingdom with the aim of presenting the denomination to English traders as part of the OCM promotional initiatives planned in the country, involving over thirty companies protagonists at the SITT – Specialist Importers’ Trade Tasting, which will take place in Manchester and London on 26 and 28 February respectively. Born in 2005, SITT develops participatory events with the walk-around tasting format, i.e. tasting stands aimed exclusively at trade operators, sommeliers and buyers from the independent off-trade channel, wine educators and journalists. “We are proud to return to the United Kingdom thanks to this initiative which allows us to touch high-level reference figures, interested in high quality productions”, declared the president of the Consortium, Elvira Bortolomiol. “The English market is key for us in the export sector as it is positioned as the first importer of Spumante Docg with 10.3 million bottles and almost 55.9 million euros in value in 2022, grown respectively by +7% and +11.3% compared to 2021. A growth that in the long term was even more significant, given that the volumes of Spumante Docg increased more than 23 times compared to 2003”.

The two SITT events include the setting up of an institutional tasting stand dedicated to the wines of the Denomination. For each of the two stages – the 26th in Manchester at Etc Venues on Portland Street in the Picadilly District and the 28th in London at The Royal Horticultural Halls in Vincent Square – the presentation of 60 different wines of the Denomination is planned, in addition to the creation of a masterclass on the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg focused on the theme of territorial selections, Rive and Cartizze, as well as on food/wine pairing, held by the Master of Wine Sarah Abbott.

In addition to these first two events, the agenda includes participation in the London Wine Fair from 20 to 22 May with a masterclass dedicated to the Appellation held by Sarah Abbott MW.

Added to this is the renewal of the partnership with the prestigious Plumpton College where, at the beginning of September, a day of study and tasting dedicated to the Martinotti method and the Sui Yeviti typology will be held aimed at college students, operators, the press and producers premises, with masterclass held by the director, Diego Tomasi, who declares:

“With this intense and calibrated activity, the Consortium wants to increasingly enhance the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg by raising its distinctiveness and continuing to affirm the Premium positioning of the Denomination”.

In the period from April to September the Consortium has also planned three incoming activities which will bring over 20 guests including buyers from the off-trade sector, influencers, journalists and wine educators to the area to deepen their knowledge of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg, but also to learn about the direct protagonists in their production area.

Finally, the initiatives aimed at the United Kingdom include a digital campaign developed in collaboration with the magazines Decanter and Drinks Retailing News, the International Wine & Spirits Competition, in which the Protection Consortium is Sponsor of the Emerging Talent in Wine Communication Trophy for the second year consecutive, and a partnership with various English influencers.
