A Thousand Shades of Elegance: The Inimitable Balance of Col Vetoraz in Two Different Expressions

Two expressions of Col Vetoraz: Brut Rosa 12 Lune from Pinot Nero, matured for twelve moons, and the Valdobbiadene Docg Extra Brut Cuvée 5.

In the Conegliano Valdobbiadene landscape, Col Vetoraz has always stood for rigor, harmony and deep respect for the territory. Yet the skill of this historic winery also shines through remarkably different stylistic paths, able to surprise even the most demanding palates, between the precision of sparkling winemaking and the poetry of the land. On one side, there is the Brut Rosa 12 Lune, a sparkling wine made from Pinot Nero grapes that challenges the great classic methods thanks to a very slow maturation in autoclave guided by lunar cycles. On the other, this complex harmony meets the vertical purity of the Valdobbiadene Docg Extra Brut Cuvée 5, the result of thirty years of experience and the union of five outstanding micro-terroirs. Two different masterpieces, two unique ways of interpreting the art of sparkling wine, where harmony and finesse take center stage.

“These are two wines that express distinct souls of our way of making sparkling wine,” explains Francesca Miotto, communications and events manager at Col Vetoraz. “On one side, the Brut Rosa 12 Lune, the result of study and experimentation in long Charmat method aging; on the other, the Valdobbiadene Docg Extra Brut Cuvée 5, born from the combination of five different zones of our territory, each bringing unique characteristics. Two parallel paths that meet in the same shared values: balance, harmony and elegance.”

Brut Rosa Dodici Lune

The Brut Rosa Dodici Lune is a sparkling wine made from Pinot Nero grapes vinified as a rosé. The idea behind it came from the desire to create a wine that could hold its own against a classic method sparkling wine, achieving similar quality but with more elegant nuances. To reach this goal, the winery carried out numerous trials, finally settling on 12, the ideal maturation period and the most fitting number to enhance its elegance. The inspiration came from the method used in Champagne cellars, reinterpreted in autoclave. The wine rests for 60 days at 13–13.5 °C for fermentation. Then, for a period of twelve moons, equal to eleven months according to the long Charmat method, the temperature drops to 11–11.5 °C to allow maturation while preserving its elegance. With a fine, persistent perlage, a creamy mousse and an elegant bouquet, this brut shows a distinctive rose-gold color. On the palate it is dry, harmonious and lingering, with aromas recalling berries and ripe yeast.

Valdobbiadene Docg Extra Brut Cuvée 5

The Valdobbiadene Docg Extra Brut Cuvée 5 comes from a selection of 5 vineyards chosen out of 102 across the foothills of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Docg. Each of these grapes has its own specific features. The winery vinifies them separately and only later blends them, creating a deep, layered whole from which the cuvées are made. Despite its low residual sugar, just 5 g/l, this sparkling wine keeps a round expression. It fully respects the hallmarks of the Col Vetoraz style, balance, harmony and elegance, while also showing great versatility.
